The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired centre Antoine Vermette from the Arizona Coyotes for a first-round pick and defensive prospect Klas Dahlbeck, a source told The Canadian Press.

Vermette, an unrestricted free agent this off-season, is 32 years old and has 13 goals and 22 assists in 62 games this season.

He has a cap hit of US$3.75 million, which the Blackhawks are able to absorb because star winger Patrick Kane is on long-term injured reserve for the remainder of the year with a clavicle injury.

The first-round pick is in this year's draft.

Chicago traded its second-round pick Friday to the Philadelphia Flyers for 39-year-old defenceman Kimmo Timonen.

Dahlbeck is a 23-year-old defenceman.
