Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic, a native of Vancouver, B.C., has decided to change how he plans to celebrate his day with the Stanley Cup because of the lingering feelings in Vancouver, the Vancouver Sun reported.
Lucic had considered bringing the Cup to a Vancouver public beach park on Sunday, but with many Vancouver fans still bitter over the result of the series, in which the Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks, those plans have been cancelled.
Instead, Lucic planned to keep his time with Cup private.
Lucic made an appearance at a Greek festival in the city earlier in the summer, but fights broke out among people attending the event. According to the Sun, several posters of Luci, who once played for the Vancouver Giants junior team, had been defaced.
Lucic had five goals and seven assists in the postseason as the Bruins prevailed in seven games over the Canucks. The loss set off riots in Vancouver.
