Canada will face Finland in Friday's semi-final at the women's world hockey championship.

Finland downed Switzerland 3-0 in Wednesday's quarter-final.

Michelle Karvinen and Linda Valimaki scored for the Finns with Rosa Lindstedt adding an empty-net goal. Meeri Raisinen stopped 15 shots for the shutout. Switzerland's goalie Florence Schelling made 28 saves in the loss.

Canada beat Finland 6-2 to conclude the preliminary round with a 2-1 record.

The United States went 3-0 in the preliminary round to also secure a semifinal berth. The defending champions will take on Russia, who were 2-1 winners over host Sweden on Wednesday.

Olga Sosina and Iya Gavrilova were Russia's goalscorers. Goaltender Maria Sorokina made 24 saves for the win. Anna Borgvist countered for the Swedes. Sarah Grahn stopped 23 shots in the loss

The semi-final winners advance to Saturday's championship game.
