The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Petteri Nokelainen and defenceman Garrett Stafford on Sunday from the Phoenix Coyotes for forward Brock Trotter and a 2012 seventh-round draft pick.

Nokelainen will join the Canadiens while Stafford heads to the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs. Montreal also recalled forward Michael Blunden from Hamilton while assigning forwards Andreas Engqvist and Aaron Palushaj there.

Nokelainen, 25, registered one assist in five games with the Coyotes this season. The native of Imatra, Finland, was taken in the first round, 16th overall, by the New York Islanders in the 2004 NHL entry draft.

Stafford, 31, had a goal and three assists in six games with the AHL's Portland Pirates.

Trotter registered two goals and five assists in five games with the Bulldogs this season.
