Cory Conacher

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired forward Cory Conacher from the New York Islanders in an exchange of minor leaguers.

The Islanders receive Dustin Jeffrey, who had been with Vancouver's AHL affiliate in Utica.

The Canucks will be Conacher's fifth NHL organization since breaking into the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2012-13. After 35 games with the Lightning that season, he was sent to the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline in the deal that sent goaltender Ben Bishop to Tampa Bay.

After a disappointing season in Ottawa, Concacher was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Sabres at the 2014 trade deadline. After finishing the season with the Sabres, he was signed by the New York Islanders as a free agent.

This season, he played 15 games in New York before being put on waivers in December, ultimately being assigned to the team's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.

Concacher, 25, is a former Rookie of the Year in the AHL, helping the Norfolk Admirals win the Calder Cup in 2011-12. He was named the MVP of the playoffs in that championship season.

Jeffrey, 27, has 17 goals and 24 assists in 49 games with Utica this season.

With the 3 pm ET deadline approaching, the Canucks and Flames swung a deal with Vancouver acquiring forward Sven Baertschi and Calgary getting a second round pick in 2015.

Baertschi, a 22-year-old forward, has four assists in 15 games for Calgary this year and has spent much of the season with the AHL's Adirondack Flames. The 2011 first-round pick has just eight goals and 20 assists in 66 career NHL games. Baertschi is scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

Canucks general manager Jim Benning said both players will report to their minor league club in Utica.
