The Vancouver Canucks are in discussions with former New York Rangers coach John Tortorella about the club's vacant head coaching position according to a report by Canadian sports cable broadcaster TSN.
Tortorella was fired by the Rangers on May 29, four days following New York’s Game 5 second-round elimination to the Boston Bruins.
Canucks general manager Mike Gillis told the TEAM 1040 that the club was planning on interviewing four or five more candidates for the job.
Vancouver had shown interest in former Toronto Marlies bench boss Dallas Eakins, who was was introduced as the Edmonton Oilers’ head coach on Monday.
Vancouver fired head coach Alain Vigneault and assistants Rick Bowness and Newell Brown on May 22, 15 days after being eliminated from the first round of the NHL Playoffs for the second consecutive season.
