Canucks sign winger Shirokov Add to ...

The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Sergei Shirokov to a two-year contract worth $875,000 (U.S.) per season.

Shirokov, 23, is a winger who played in the Kontinental Hockey League last season, scoring 17 goals and netting a team-leading 41 points for CSKA Moscow. The Moscow native was drafted by the Canucks in 2006 with a sixth-round pick (163rd overall), and will attend training camp next month at the University of British Columbia.

Shirokov, who stands 5 foot 10 and weighs 176 lbs., has five years of professional experience, including four in the former Russian elite league, and has also played in two world junior championships, where he tallied 13 points in 12 games.
