Evgeni Malkin going under the knife Add to ...

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin will miss the rest of the NHL season.

The team says he will undergo surgery Thursday to repair torn knee ligaments.

General manager Ray Shero says Malkin's rehabilitation period will take six months.

Malkin tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his right knee during a game against Buffalo last Friday.

The 24-year-old Malkin won the league's scoring title in 2009.

He had 15 goals and 22 assists in 43 games this season.
