Sharks at Flames

This is a big one in the fight for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Calgary is playing better than San Jose right now, although that is not saying much. Tuesday, 9:30 p.m., TSN.

Avalanche at Sabres

Here is one with implications for both the eastern and western playoff races. Buffalo and Colorado are both hot right now. Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., TSN 2.

Stars at Jets

Winnipeg has to cool off Dallas, which had a five-game win streak by Sunday, if it hopes to keep pace in the race for the last playoff spot in the east. Wednesday, 8:30 p.m., TSN-Jets.

Penguins at Rangers

This is the game of the week, perhaps of the new year, since Sid The Kid may return. If you don't have the right cable package, get to your nearest sports bar. Thursday, 7 p.m., NHL Network U.S., Root-TV, MSG.

Capitals at Jets

Once again, two of the teams fighting for the last Eastern Conference playoff spot go at it. Friday, 8 p.m., TSN-Jets.
