Calgary Flames center Sam Bennett collides with Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele during pre-season actionCandice Ward

The Calgary Flames have sent Sam Bennett back to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Bennett, the fourth pick in last year's draft, has been out all season following shoulder surgery.

The Flames had to choose whether to keep the young centre around in the NHL or send him back to junior.

Bennett is not eligible to play in the American Hockey League because he's 18 and played in the CHL.
