Claude Giroux will not attend Hockey Canada's Olympic orientation camp as he continues to rehab from a finger injury.
The Philadelphia Flyers centre suffered tendon damage in his right index finger when a golf club splintered in his hands, the team said. He had surgery Aug. 15 and was at the time expected to miss five to six weeks.
"It's simply due to the injury and the rehab for now," agent Pat Brisson said in an email. "The team will be decided based on most of everyone's performance the first 25 games."
Canada's Olympic orientation camp will not include any on-ice activities. Giroux was one of 47 players invited, and it does not seem likely that he will be replaced.
Giroux tied for 13th in the NHL in points last season and figures to be part of Canada's team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, as long as he's healthy.
