An NHL free agent cheat sheet: Who's left?

Globe and Mail Update

The No. 1 question I've been getting this off-season is "Who are the free agents still available that are worth watching?" So much so that I put together a list yesterday to keep track.

As of late July, there were 70 free agents, both unrestricted and restricted, of note. Two of the UFAs here, Denis Grebeshkov and Brian Pothier, have signed deals overseas and may be among the first to be crossed off. (Pothier's has an out clause, however, so he can still land in the NHL.)

I'll check these players off as they sign:

UFAs likely signing soon

Lee Stempniak, Phoenix
Teemu Selanne, Anaheim
Eric Belanger, Phoenix

Let me know if you think there's anyone I missed.

UPDATE Reader Bill D. offers a few names that I haven't listed: Wayne Primeau, Mike Comrie, Jason Williams, Ryan Johnson and Aaron Johnson. I think all five will have a tough time finding contracts in this environment, but we'll see. There are not nearly enough roster spots for everyone here to sign.

UPDATE Aaron Johnson signed a two-way deal with the Predators. Comrie landed with Pittsburgh for the league minimum.
