Montreal Canadiens rookie goalie Carey Price, who was recalled on Monday after a month-long stint in the minors, will likely play against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre on Thursday evening.
He has beaten the Leafs three times this season and No. 1 Cristobal Huet, who will make his 13th consecutive start against the Ottawa Senators tonight, could use a break.
“It would be nice to get some action right away,” Price said. “I don’t think they would have called me up not to play.”
Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau said “it’s a possibility” that he will start Price on Thursday. “If we have him here, it’s to play.”
Price was sent down to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL in eahrly January to regain the confidence he exhibited earlier in the season and get more playing time.
“It was a matter of playing more minutes,” he said. “I was going through a time here when things weren’t going my way. There were a lot of pucks going off shin pads and rebounds were going right to the other team.”
