Houston: Domi's debut brings mixed results

Globe and Mail Blog Post
Tie Domi's debut on TSN's NHL preview show Tuesday earns a grade no higher than a C minus. He's marginally articulate and if he says "youz guys" again he should be taken off the air.
Still,  he obviously has a keen interest in, not only sports and Liberal politicians, but federal politics. He enthused that the Ottawa Senators’ new goalie Martin Gerber could be elected Prime Minister of Canada if he helps the Sens win the Stanley Cup, assuming, we guess, the Senators’ have a constituency outside the Ottawa Valley.
I didn't sense that the other TSN analysts sucked up to Domi, and the reasons for not aggressively challenging him had to be with him being new. Let's face it, nobody aggressively challenged anybody on the show. Re Domi, Bob McKenzie had a good line about TSN finally hiring somebody shorter than him and with a bigger head.
As for the way in which Domi got his job at TSN, he's pretty skilled at promoting himself. I don't think he needs help from his friend Larry Tanenbaum, although there is a clear relationship between TSN and  Tanenbaum, the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment chairman. TSN and Tanenbaum's company Insight Sports share ownership of NHL Network. As well, TSN owner Bell Globemedia has a seat on the MLSE board along with Tanenbaum. Globemedia owns 15 per cent of MLSE; Tanenbaum about 13 per cent.
