Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Joe Corvo was angry Sunday after a 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. So angry that when asked about Carolina's early-season schedule, he held little back.

"It's pretty ridiculous if you're trying to get a fairly successful start to your season," Corvo said. "But, whatever you have to do to make money.

"It's not easy. All these teams we're playing out here are basically playoff teams."

Carolina (2-2) hasn't been at home in Raleigh since Oct. 1, yet has trekked from Europe to the North American west coast, travelling about 15,000 kilometres and through 11 time zones.

The Canes began their season with two games against the Minnesota Wild in Finland, then crossed the Atlantic for a road game at Ottawa. They played in Vancouver Sunday, and are off to San Jose, Los Angeles and Phoenix this week during a tour of four Western Conference playoff teams, two of them back-to-back. Their first real home game is Oct. 27 against Washington.

"It's been a tough road so far, and it doesn't get any easier," Corvo said. "We've travelled so many miles, and lost so much sleep. It's something that, you don't even know what's going on in your body. I feel it myself."
