Finally, a Dany Heatley sighting. With two minutes to go in the second period, Heatley scored his first goal in forever, thanks to a nice play by Patrick Eaves, who was playing on the top line, after coach Bryan Murray started shifting bodies around, trying to get something going. In October, Eaves started the season with Jason Spezza and Heatley and it looked as if the memories of that time were fresh in his mind, because he really made the play on the goal. Eaves walked out of the corner, froze defenceman Scott Niedermayer and then passed the puck between his legs, to Heatley, wide open at hte side of the net for a sitter.
That was critical since it salvaged a mediocre second period for the Senators, in which they managed a total of four shots (compared to 13 for the Ducks). At the end, Daniel Alfredsson caused a stir just as time was running out, blasting a slapshot right at Scott Niedermayer that looked awfully deliberate. The Ducks thought so and in the ensuing melee, Sami Pahlsson and Mike Fisher were both nicked for roughing penalties.
It's 2-2 at the end of two and the teams will start the third playing four on four. It goes without saying, this is a critical moment for the Senators, their playoff lives more or less hanging in the balance.
