In the hours after Coyotes winger Raffi Torres hit Marian Hossa and the Chicago Blackhawks star was stretchered off the ice, the NHL fraternity began to weigh in on Twitter.
It was for the most part an avalanche of critical and concerned comments, coming from everyone from Hall of Famers to career minor leaguers.
Here's a look at some of what was said on Tuesday night:
Mike Modano: "Really selling the game. No wonder our TV deals suck ass!"
Rory Fitzpatrick: "The hockey 'goon' has been replaced by the human wrecking ball. Players paid to hit to hurt. 90% of time [it's]not a 'hockey play' when they hit."
Jeremy Roenick: "I'm all for a great hard hit. But in today's game [you]can't leave [your]feet. Torres left his feet to hit Hossa and should be suspended."
Tyler Bozak: "Really hope Hossa is okay. Hate seeing stuff like that!"
Ryan Whitney: "Hate seeing any player on a stretcher but even tougher when its a former teammate who is one of the best guys in the league. Hope Hossa is ok."
Ian Laperrière: "I love the physical play but guys hitting guys that don't have the puck (and jumping) drive me nuts ..."
Brenden Morrow: "Just witnessed another suspension in the Chicago Phoenix series....!"
