Preds task Weber
with Sedins shut down
Add to ...

All eyes will be on the Vancouver Canucks twins tonight in Game 6, as Daniel and Henrik Sedin try and finally break out in this series and make a difference.

Trying to stop them will be the Nashville Predators duo of Shea Weber and Ryan Suter.

Despite the fact the Sedins have been relative non-factors offensively and Ryan Kesler has been dominant in the series, Preds coach Barry Trotz has continued to use his top defence pairing against the struggling twins, matching against them most often and sheltering his depth players.

There's a great tool available on this site where you can essentially map out who coaches are using against various opposition players, one I've used to break down the percentage of ice time various Canucks have spent against their opponents the past three games.

As you can see below, at 5-on-5, the Sedins are seeing more of Weber than anyone else (Henrik Sedin, Kesler and Lapierre make up the centres for Vancouver's top three lines, which is why I've listed them):

The Preds will have last change tonight, which should aid Trotz in getting the matchups he wants.

So far that's meant Weber and Suter shutting down the Sedins, but the second pairing of Klein and Blum struggling to contain Kesler. Cody Franson, Shane O'Brien and some of the lower line forwards, meanwhile, see a lot of the third line centred by Lapierre.

Just one other thing to watch for in Game 6.
