You've certainly heard of snowbirds who stop in to see their favourite NHL team play in Arizona or Florida whenever they come to town.

But how about a young Vancouverite buying a Florida Panthers season ticket on a lark without ever intending to go to any games?

That's a new one.

But that's exactly what lawyer Jay Adams did this past season, forking out a whole $173 (U.S.) for 24 home games, 24 parking passes and a Panthers jersey during the lockout shortened year.

He chronicled his unique story here, but some of the highlights include:

- Threatening the team he would cancel his one $7 a game nosebleed seat if they didn't trade prospects to his favourite team, the Vancouver Canucks

- Attempting (and usually failing) to give his seat away all season for free on Craigslist

- E-mailing team president Michael Yormark about attending the team's final home game and winding up getting Yormark's personal seats for the Panthers-Leafs game in late April

All in all, it's a fun story, one we could be seeing a little more often given the extreme prices for tickets to see Canadian NHL teams.

And the Panthers can probably use the $173, too.
