Each player from the Spokane Chiefs, Kitchener Rangers, Belleville Bulls and Gatineau Olympiques at the Memorial Cup have the name Ed on their helmets in tribute to former Canadian (junior) Hockey League commissioner Ed Chynoweth.

Chynoweth was immensely popular in the Canadian hockey community, which was saddened by his passing last month at age 66 after a two-year-plus battle with kidney cancer.

Born in Dodsland, Sask., Chynoweth was the WHL president, CHL commissioner and later served as president of the WHL's Kootenay Ice. His son Dean played for the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins and currently is the coach-GM of the Swift Current Broncos. Son Jeff is the Kootenay GM.
