Hockey Canada announced the roster for its world junior championship development camp, held Aug. 4-7 in St. John's, Nfld. It can be found here.

It appears as though the defending silver medallists will have four returning players from the 2010 tournament in Saskatchewan. Windsor Spitfires defenceman Ryan Ellis should play in his third consecutive tournament, while Ottawa Senators prospect Jared Cowen and Oshawa Generals rearguard Calvin de Haan should help man the blue line. Up front, some of the scoring load will fall on Brandon Wheat Kings centre Brayden Schenn.

Hockey Canada has invited Spitfires winger Taylor Hall to the camp, but the former world junior member is expected to make the Edmonton Oilers after being selected first overall in the 2010 NHL entry draft.

Hall and Ellis will skip the camp, while Cowen and de Haan will attend but won't play in games.

Besides the returnees, there are eight players who were invited to the December selection camp last year and who will vie for roster spots again this year.

The list includes goaltender Olivier Roy of Acadie-Bathurst in the QMJHL, and defencemen Dylan Olsen, Nicolas Deslauriers and Brandon Gormley. Forwards Tyler Seguin, Cody Eakin, Louis Leblanc, and Scott Glennie are also in this boat.

Then there is Windsor forward Zack Kassian and Montreal Rockets defenceman Charles-Olivier Roussel. Both went to the development camp last summer, but were not invited to selection camp.

Another name worth mentioning is forward Sean Couturier of Drummondville. The New Brunswick native is the youngest player invited to camp - he doesn't turn 18 until Dec. 7 - and could be the first player selected at the 2011 entry draft.
