Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenceman Chris Buonomo.Terry Wilson

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenceman Chris Buonomo has been suspended for 15 games for his hit to the head of Ottawa 67's forward Connor Brown.

Buonomo hit Brown behind the Greyhounds' net late in the third period of Ottawa's 6-1 win in Sault. Ste Marie on Friday. He was assessed a five-minute major for a check to the head as well as a game misconduct on the play.

In its review of the play, the OHL also determined Buonomo left the ice when he delivered the hit.

Brown was not injured on the play.

Buonomo sat out the Greyhounds' game Saturday against Barrie, which will count towards his suspension. He is eligible to return to action Dec. 12 when the Greyhounds host Plymouth.
