The Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenceman Dylan Olsen to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Saturday.
Olsen, 19, is currently in Buffalo, N.Y., representing Canada at the world junior hockey championship, where he has one assist in four games. He was Chicago's first choice, 28th overall, at the 2009 NHL draft.
Olsen had a goal and 12 assists in 17 games this season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he was a sophomore. He will report to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
Though born in Salt Lake City, Olsen grew up in Calgary. He had 53 points and 168 penalty minutes in 102 career games over two seasons with the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League before starting his NCAA career.
He also had two goals, two assists and a plus-4 rating in six games with Canada at the 2009 Under-18 IIHF World Championships.
