Winnipeg Jets defenceman Derek Meech is expected to miss at least six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a lower-body injury.

He was placed on the injured reserve list after he was hurt in a game against the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 20.

Meech, a Winnipeg native, did not record a point in two games this season. He has 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 128 career NHL games with the Jets and Detroit Red Wings.

Also Sunday, the Jets announced that forward Jason Jaffray and defenceman Arturs Kulda have been recalled from the St. John's IceCaps and blue-liner Paul Postma has been re-assigned to the AHL club.
