The Winnipeg Jets selected forward Nikolaj Ehlers with the ninth overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft on Friday night.

The five-foot-10 176-pound Dane is the first player from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to be selected in the 2014 draft.

Ehlers was fourth in the QMJHL with 104 points (49-55) in 63 games with the Halifax Mooseheads this past season.

The 18-year-old was named rookie of the year and offensive rookie of the year.

Ehlers also had 28 points (11-17) in 16 post-season games.
