A look at plays that changed the game during night three of the Stanley Cup playoffs
UGLY HIT The Canadiens had just tied the score 1-1 and were badly outplaying the Senators, but the game turned ugly on the very next shift. Ottawa's Eric Gryba laid a hit on Montreal's Lars Eller that was so violent, the 26-year-old Dane was unconscious before his face slammed into the ice.CHRISTINNE MUSCHI/Reuters
Gryba was assessed a five minute major penalty, and although the Habs were able to score once on the man advantage, Senators goalie Craig Anderson made several spectacular stops keeping Ottawa in the game. He would go on to stop 48 of the 50 shots he faced.Ryan Remiorz/The Canadian Press
Buoyed by the strong play of their netminder, the Sens scored three third period goals on Montreal's Carey Price to steal Game 1, 4-2.Graham Hughes/The Canadian Press
GREAT 8 After firing blanks on Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist through one-plus periods, the Capitals found themselves down 1-0. Cue Alex Ovechkin. Washington's superstar scored on a second period power play, the first of three goals the Caps would score in the period.Mark Tenally/The Associated Press
Capitals goalie Braden Holtby would be perfect the rest of the way to help Washington win Game 1 over New York 3-1.Alex Brandon/The Associated Press
ELLIOTT OUTDUELS QUICK AGAIN As was the case in Game 1, Blues goalie Brian Elliott and Kings goalie Jonathan Quick went save for save in a low-scoring game. And just like Game 1, Elliott was just a bit better than Quick.Jeff Roberson/The Associated Press
Blues defenceman Barret Jackman scored his first career playoff goal with 50.4 seconds remaining, lifting St. Louis to a 2-1 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings and a 2-0 series lead.SARAH CONARD/Reuters
A TALE OF THREE GAMES After losing Game 1, Detroit came out flying in Game 2 scoring two quick goals and were leading 4-1 in the third period.Chris Carlson/The Associated Press
Anaheim then stormed back, scoring three goals in just under 10 minutes, highlighted by Bobby Ryan's tying goal with just over two minutes left in the third period.Chris Carlson/The Associated Press
But Ducks defenceman Sheldon Souray took a slashing penalty late in the third period, which carried over into overtime. Detroit's Gustav Nyquist scored just before the penalty expired, allowing the Red Wings to avoid a huge collapse, tying the series at one game apiece.LUCY NICHOLSON/Reuters
