Leafs place Colton Orr on waivers Add to ...

Colton Orr’s days with the Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be coming to an end.

The NHL team put the veteran fighter on waivers Wednesday and unless another team claims him he could be headed for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Orr, 29, appeared in just five games this season, scoring one goal.

Orr is probably a victim of the declining need for fighters in the NHL. The Leafs also have enforcer Jay Rosehill on their roster and he is three years younger than Orr, who also had to deal with a concussion last season. Rosehill appeared in 15 games so far this season for the Leafs.

Orr is in his eighth NHL season and came to the Leafs as a free agent in July, 2009. He has the rest of this season and next season left on his contract at a salary of $1-million.
