Darryl Boyce will have a pleasant Christmas, touring the likes of Long Island, Florida and North Carolina with the Toronto Maple Leafs instead of American Hockey League hotspots like Rockford, Ill., and Cleveland.

The Toronto Marlies forward was called up by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday to replace forward Colby Armstrong, who has a concussion. Armstrong was placed on the NHL's injured-reserve list and will be out indefinitely. The promotion also means a nice bump in pay in time for Christmas, as Boyce will switch his AHL salary of $105,000 (all currency U.S.) for his NHL stipend of $700,000.

While Boyce has only four goals and six assists in 22 games with the Marlies, but he has performed well in previous stints with the Leafs. Last season, Boyce, 27, had 13 points and was a plus-8 in 46 games with the Leafs.

Boyce is likely to see some time as a penalty killer, since centre Phillipe Dupuis was also placed on injured reserve Tuesday. He is out at least a week with an undisclosed upper-body injury.

The Leafs' penalty-killing unit is among the worst in the NHL this season and Wilson registered his displeasure with Dupuis by not giving him any time on the unit during Monday's 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
