Detroit Red Wings forward Mike Modano will be out indefinitely after having his right wrist cut by a skate.

The 40-year-old underwent surgery on Saturday morning at Detroit Medical Center. He suffered a severed tendon and slight damage to a nerve after getting cut during the second period of Friday's game in Columbus.

No specific timetable was provided for his return.

Modano is in his first year with the Red Wings after spending 20 seasons with the Minnesota North Stars and Dallas Stars. He has two goals and eight points in 20 games.
