The NHL fined Boston forward Milan Lucic $5,000 (U.S.) on Saturday for a spearing incident in the Bruins' opening playoff game.

Lucic was fined for spearing Detroit defenceman Danny DeKeyser in the second period of the Red Wings' 1-0 victory Friday night.

No penalty was called on the play.

The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
