The Edmonton Oilers have placed goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on injured reserve with a groin injury.

The Russian, who is out indefinitely, is 4-10-1 in 15 games this season with a 4.07 goals-against average and a .879 save percentage.

The struggling 4-10-3 Oilers have recalled Martin Gerber from Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League.

Gerber, 36, has played in 13 games this season with a 9-4-0 record, 2.56 GAA and .911 save percentage.

In 226 NHL games, Gerber has a 110-78-21 record, 2.65 GAA and .910 save percentage.

Gerber and Devan Dubnyk will form Edmonton's goaltending tandem while Khabibulin is out.
