Mike Ribeiro
The Nashville Predators have signed free-agent forwards Mike Ribeiro and Derek Roy to one year deals.
Ribeiro, who was bought out of the final three years of his four-year, $22-million contract with the Phoenix Coyotes at the end of this past season, will earn $1.05-million while Roy's deal is for $1-million.
"Mike is a talented veteran center who has produced offensively everywhere he has played," Predators general manager David Poile said. "We have done our due diligence and believe Mike has a lot to offer to our team, improves us at our center ice position and will fit in with our group and contribute."
The 34-year-old notched 16 goals and 47 points in 80 NHL games with the Coyotes. He has also previously played for the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens.
Since the 2003-04 campaign – his first full NHL season – Ribeiro has played the 10th-most games of any NHL forward, averaging 62 points a season. He has also been an iron-man of sorts the last four years, missing just a total of 10 games.
Poile added that Roy brings depth, playmaking ability and experience at the center position.
"He has played in a number of roles and is effective on the power play. He provides our coaching staff with some added skill and maturity down the middle when putting together our lineup for the coming season."
Roy had nine goals and 37 points in 75 games last season with St. Louis. He made $4-million with the Blues last year.
The moves come a week after the Predators announced centre Mike Fisher would miss four to six months with a ruptured Achilles tendon. Seeking to boost its offence, Nashville already had acquired James Neal from Pittsburgh and signed Olli Jokinen.
