"I should know they're a little extra sensitive right now," Dallas Stars forward Brenden Morrow, referring to NHL referees, in the aftermath of the Alex Burrows-Stéphane Auger exchange last week. Morrow took high-sticking and unsportsmanlike-conduct penalties that the Philadelphia Flyers turned into the decisive goal in a 6-3 win over the Stars last Wednesday.
"You know how I feel about the shootout. I think it's a bit of a gimmick. When you have two teams play that way - and, I'm at the wrong side of it, losing in a shootout, but I'm still trying to be objective here - I have different thoughts about how you end those games, and it's not with that," New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella didn't like the shootout, even before his team lost a 1-0 decision to the New Jersey Devils last week.
"For the first time in my career, I've played more than two games with the same linemate. That makes a difference for me. Every day, I am not stressing about the lineup," Minnesota Wild forward Guillaume Latendresse, who had 16 points (10 goals) in his first 22 games since joining the NHL team in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens. Latendresse is averaging 16 minutes 19 seconds in ice time, after playing just 11:21 in 23 games with Montreal.
