The NHL has fined Ottawa Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson $2,500 for slashing Florida's Sean Bergenheim during a game over the weekend.

The incident happened at 14:06 of the third period in Florida's 4-2 win over Ottawa on Sunday.

Karlsson received a minor penalty for the slash.

The $2,500 goes to the players' emergency assistance fund.
