Dallas Stars defenceman Mark Fistric was suspended three games by the NHL on Wednesday for delivering a dangerous hit to Islanders forward Nino Niederreiter.
The play occurred Saturday when Fistric left his feet to hammer Niederreiter along the boards in the neutral zone.
The Islanders rookie suffered a concussion on the play.
No penalty was assessed on the ice, but NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said Fistric violated rule 42.1 for charging because he left his feet to deliver the check.
Fistric will forfeit $16,216.23 in salary and is eligible to return Dec. 15 for a game against the Islanders.
