Tootoo a first Add to ...

Jordin Tootoo became the first Inuit player taken in the National Hockey League entry draft.

The 5-foot-8, 185-pound right winger from Rankin Inlet, NWT, was the first player taken in the fourth round yesterday. He went to the Nashville Predators and was the 98th player chosen overall.

Last season, Tootoo scored 20 goals in 60 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. He is a hard-nosed player with a tremendous slap shot.
