Kyle Turris has ended his standoff with the Phoenix Coyotes.
The 22-year-old forward signed a $2.8-million, two-year contract on Tuesday and will immediately report to the team for a physical.
"I am happy to sign with Phoenix and start playing," Turris said in a statement. "It's been a long process, but now I am focused on playing and helping the team win."
Turris had been hoping to force a trade out of Phoenix by sitting out since the start of training camp.
However, general manager Don Maloney refused to trade the restricted free agent and made it clear his only opportunity to play in the NHL this season would come if he signed with the Coyotes. He stuck to his guns.
"Kyle is a top young player who will make us a better team," said Maloney. "We look forward to having him in our lineup."
A native of New Westminster, B.C., Turris has amassed 46 points (19-27) in 131 career NHL games.
The third overall pick in 2007 had 11 goals and 25 points in 65 games with Phoenix last season.
Turris needed to sign a contract before Dec. 1 in order to be eligible to play in the NHL this season.
