Aigles Blues 4, Saskatchewan 1

Eric Faille scored twice to lead the Moncton Aigles Bleus to a 5-1 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies at the Canadian university men's hockey championship Friday.

Samuel Groulx, Francis Rochon and Simon Lacroix also scored for Moncton, who improved to 1-1 at the tournament after losing to No. 2 seed McGill on Thursday.

Matthew Delahey scored the lone goal for the No. 3 Huskies, who slipped to 0-1.

Pierre-Alexandre Marion made 20 saves for the fifth-ranked Aigles Bleus.

David Reekie made 27 saves for the Huskies, who scored first but then gave up five straight goals.

"It was a great bounce-back win," said Moncton coach Serge Bourgeois. "I'm very proud of the guys. It's too bad we now have to get some help to advance, but we're the ones who put ourselves in this situation. All we can do now is sit and wait."

In the evening game, the No. 4 Western Mustangs beat the No. 6 Trois-Rivieres Patriotes 3-2.

McGill can advance to the final with a win over Saskatchewan or a loss by no more than two goals on Saturday. A Huskies victory by three, four or five goals would send Moncton to the championship game.

"It was pretty easy to be motivated today," said Moncton captain Dean Ouellet. "We didn't play our best game (against McGill) yesterday. The guys wanted to battle hard to prove ourselves and gives us a chance."

Mustangs 3, Patriotes 2 (OT)

Julian Cimadamore scored in overtime to lift the Western Mustangs past the Trois-Rivieres Patriotes.

Cimadamore collected a 30-foot cross-ice pass from Steve Reese before walking in to beat Patriotes goaltender Guillaume Nadeau glove side.

"I guess everyone saw it the same as me," said Nadeau. "It was a 3-on-2 with a cross pass and shoot and it ended up in the back of the net. It's hard."

Keaton Turkiewicz and Reese also scored for No. 4 Western (1-0), while Josh Unice made 41 saves in net.

"This was definitely one of my best games (of my career) especially with the level of competition we're playing right now," said Unice. "The team played great in front of me and were sacrificing themselves, blocking all kinds of shots and doing all the little things right."

Billy Lacasse and Felix Lefrancois each scored goals while Nadeau stopped 30 shots for No. 6 Trois Rivieres (0-2).

"I'm proud of the way we bounced back today," said Patriotes head coach Jacques Laporte. "This is the sign of a team that has character. The way things ended is not the best way. We played a good game and I think we deserved to win."

Western next plays New Brunswick on Saturday with the winner earning a berth in Sunday's final.
