Two goals in the span of 44-seconds to start the second period helped catapult Switzerland to a 5-2 win over the Czech Republic at the world junior hockey championship on Saturday.
Noah Rod had a goal 45 seconds into the second to snap a 2-2 tie and Tim Wieser added another just 44 seconds after that as the Swiss picked up a win in their Group B opener. Kevin Fiala, a first round draft pick of the Nashville Predators, had a pair of goals for Switzerland, including 46 seconds into the first period. Gauthier Descloux stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced for the win.
Marek Ruzicka and Lukas Klok had the goals for the Czech Republic, who fell to 0-2 with the loss.
