Canadian hurdling star Priscilla Lopes-Schliep is a mom.

Lopes-Schliep gave birth Friday to a baby girl Nataliya Ava, who weighed in at eight pounds one ounce.

It's the first child for the Olympic bronze medallist from Whitby, Ont., and husband Bronsen Schliep.

Lopes-Schliep posted on Twitter: "Thank you everyone for all your support, Bronsen & I our very happy to announce the birth of our daughter Nataliya Ava Schliep!"

The 29-year-old won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and went on to become the world's No. 1-ranked hurdler last season.

She trained through most of her pregnancy with her sights set on next summer's London Olympics.

Lopes-Schliep and her husband, a former basketball player, met while attending the University of Nebraska.
