Jenna Caira and Danielle Lawrie combined on a three-hitter as Canada shut out the Netherlands 4-0 in seven innings at the ISF Women’s World Fastball Championships on Saturday.
It was a must-win playoff game for Canada, which dropped a 4-2 decision to the United States on Friday.
Caira pitched five innings while striking out four. The Toronto native gave up three hits and no walks.
Lawrie, sister of Toronto Blue Jays star Brett Lawrie, pitched two clean innings while striking out two. The Langley, B.C., native was pitching on little rest after going the distance in Canada’s loss to the Americans.
Jennifer Yee of North Delta, B.C., Calgary’s Sheena Lawrick and Caitlin Lever each had an RBI for Canada.
Canada is now 7-2 at the tournament and will play Australia for a berth in the bronze medal final.
