Canada’s women’s coxed four rowing team won the championship event at the Head of the Charles regatta Sunday.
Toronto’s Jen Martins, Rosie DeBoef of Victoria, Carolyn Ganes of Saskatoon, Ottawa’s Sarah Black and coxswain Kristen Kit of St. Catharines, Ont., won in 18 minutes 32.10 seconds.
“It was really exciting to get out and race at an event of this magnitude to get the quadrennial off on the right foot,” said Ganes, who was an Olympic alternate at the London Games.
“It’s a great starting point and I think we’re all excited about the potential this group holds.”
The team was representing the Rowing Canada Aviron club.
The women’s eight team that won silver in London meanwhile finished eighth overall in their first event since the Games. The Canadians finished in 17:07.45 while the United States won in 16:13.49.
Meanwhile, Conlin McCabe of Brockville, Ont., who won silver with the men’s eight Olympic boat, helped win the men’s eight final as part of the University of Washington crew.Report Typo/Error
