Canadian boxer Ariane Fortin has won silver in the 75-kilogram class at the Commonwealth Games.

The 29-year-old from St. Nicholas, Que., lost to Savannah Marshall of England in a split decision.

Women's boxing is making its Commonwealth Games debut.

Mandy Bujold of Kitchener, Ont., captured bronze in the 51 kg. class on Friday for Canada's first-ever women's Commonwealth boxing medal.

Fortin, a two-time world champion, suffered a heartbreaking loss to friend-turned-rival Mary Spencer for a spot on the 2012 London Olympic team.

Their heated battle for an Olympic berth was chronicled in the documentary "Last Woman Standing."
