2015 Mascot Creation Challenge

Canadian children will create the mascot for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

TO2015 organizers launched their Mascot Creation Challenge on Thursday, saying they're hoping to tap into the enthusiasm of schoolchildren.

"The idea is for kids to play together and let their imaginations run wild," said TO2015's CEO Ian Troop.

The contest is open to teams of children aged 16 and under. Six finalist teams will work with a professional illustrator, and the designs will then be featured in a Canada-wide online voting contest this spring.

Hurdler Perdita Felicien, a world indoor and outdoor champion and Pan Am Games medallist, swimmer Summer Mortimer, who won four medals at last summer's Paralympics, and several other athletes, helped launch the program at a Toronto elementary school.
