Canada will play for an Olympic berth in men's water polo at home.

Edmonton has been awarded the Olympic men's water polo qualifying tournament, which will be held at Kinsmen Centre, April 1-8, 2012.

The Canadians missed a chance to book a berth in the London Olympics at the recent Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Americans beat Canada 7-3 in the gold-medal game to nab the one spot up for grabs.

Serbia, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, and Great Britain — as host — have also already qualified for the Olympic tournament.

Six other spots will come from Asia, via the Asian Games, Oceania, Africa and three spots from the qualifying tournament in Edmonton.

A maximum of 12 teams will compete in Edmonton — four from the Americas are eligible, five spots from Europe, which will be decided at European championships, two from Asia and one from Oceania.
