The first training run at the Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup was cancelled Wednesday due to heavy snow.

The first of three training sessions scheduled before the men's downhill Saturday was called off in the early morning.

Lake Louise Ski Resort reported 21 centimetres of snow had fallen overnight and 30 in the previous 24 hours.

Another training run is scheduled for Thursday.

Lake Louise kicks off the men's World Cup downhill circuit and is the only Canadian stop on the tour this season.

A super-G race Sunday follows Saturday's downhill event.
