Laser sailor David Wright of Oakville, Ontario qualified for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games with his first ever World Cup podium finish at the Miami OCR sailing competition on Saturday.

The member of Toronto's Royal Canadian Yacht Club made up a two-point deficit to rally past fellow-Canadian Chris Dold during this year's event held on the waters of Florida's Biscayne Bay.

"First World Cup podium and first Olympic berth all on the same day," Wright said. "I have been moved beyond words by the entire experience."

Dold had recently returned to competition after suffering a knee injury at last year's Miami OCR ahead of Saturday's disappointment.
