Canada could once again be without star tennis player Eugenie Bouchard when it takes on Romania next week in a Fed Cup World Group playoff tie.
Tennis Canada named just three players to its roster on Wednesday: Francoise Abanda (Montreal), Sharon Fichman (Toronto) and Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa).
Canada still has time to add Bouchard, the seventh-ranked player on the ATP Tour, for the tie taking place April 18-19 at Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal. But the native of Westmount, Que., did not participate in Canada's 4-0 against the Czech Republic in February.
The captains of each team can make two changes or additions to their roster before the tie.
Canada could use Bouchard's star power. The highest ranking of the three players announced Wednesday is Dabrowski at 177th in the world. Fichman is 206th and Abanda 243rd.
Romania will also be without its biggest star, third-ranked Simona Halep. Irina-Camelia Begu (36th), Alexandra Dulgheru (68th), Andreea Mitu (107th) and Raluca Olaru (840th) will represent the Romanians.
The winner of next week's tie will have a spot among the top eight countries in the prestigious World Group I for 2016 while the loser will be relegated to World Group II.
