Scotties showdown

Curling seems like such a polite, collegial sports in which even rivals appear to get along. Though they've been politically correct leading up to their meeting at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Wednesday, the game between defending champion Jennifer Jones and former teammate Cathy Overton-Clapham, who was fired last year, may be a little more testy than a normal midweek match.

Where will Carmelo land?

The NBA's all-star weekend was overshadowed by the endless rumours about enormous blockbuster trade possibilities involving Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Heading toward the league's trading deadline Thursday, the buzz will only intensify until the Nuggets star forces his way out of town.

Rivalry renewed

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals rivalry has developed into one of the NHL's best. Any time the Eastern Conference opponents meet, it's must-see television. Their meeting Monday has snuck up quickly thanks to a lack of Winter Classic (and HBO) hoopla.
