The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has extended its exclusive Olympic broadcast rights deal in Canada through the 2024 Games.

The International Olympic Committee says it awarded the rights to CBC/Radio-Canada for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing and the 2024 Summer Olympics, whose site has not yet been selected.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

The CBC already held the rights through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

IOC President Thomas Bach says the CBC will also continue to provide "year-round coverage of Olympic sports."

He says both sides agreed to collaborate on the new Olympic Channel under development by the IOC.

Hubert Lacroix, president of CBC/Radio-Canada, says "we are pleased that Canadians across the country will be able to continue to experience with their public broadcaster all the excitement of the Olympic Games."
